If I’ve
learned one thing in the past few months, it’s that school doesn’t have to be
this way. In fact, as a leader, I’m advocating
for something different. The time is
here and I appreciate our school leadership that is embracing all different
types of school models. School is
changing and the need for change is high.
Students are not being successful in the schools of today because they
are accepting jobs of tomorrow. I challenge
you to question the status quo by asking yourself two words…what if.
What if students
enjoyed coming to school?
What if school was
outdoors?
What if the students
became the teachers?
What if there was no
homework?
What if there were no
tests?
What if students
picked what we learn about?
What if…
Imagine
the possibilities in schools and how different they could be if we let our
imaginations run wild. Those two words
are powerful enough to start us on a journey but it takes commitment from
people that make it a reality. This is
where you start and listening to other people’s “what ifs” helps you understand
their dreams as well.
